The air cooler draws room air through a damp filter mat. The water evaporates, removing heat from the air, and the cooled airflow leaves the device. The four included ice packs enhance the effect: freeze them, place them in the tank, and switch on the device.
Because it works through evaporation, it increases the humidity in the room. This is pleasant in dry heat - in muggy weather, the device is less effective. A tilted window helps.

Will this make the room humid? Yes. An evaporative cooler releases moisture into the air - that is how it cools. This is pleasant in dry heat; in muggy rooms, you should tilt a window open.
Does it also work in muggy weather? Less effectively. The more humid the air already is, the less water can evaporate and the lower the cooling effect. The device works most effectively in dry heat.
Do I need ice cubes? No. Four reusable cooling packs are included - freeze them and place them in the tank. Ice cubes also work, but are not necessary.
Do I need to assemble anything or seal the window? No. The device works without an exhaust hose or window kit. Simply fill it with water and switch it on.
